Despite the obstacles, Olga remains quite confident in the product, itself. “The real estate business is hungry for money, ” she said, shaking her head. Indeed, she has seen many others pushed out of the neighborhood for similar reasons. Topped off with rising rents, Olga is not sure her business will operate for longer than a few more years. ” With so many people in possession of a computer and the means to make their own digital copies, her fears are not unwarranted. “Everything is digital these days, ” she rationalized, "And everyone thinks they are a designer. Her husband started Nobel Printing in 1979, and Olga took over a short while later when he became ill. “By accident, ” answered Olga Blanco when I asked her how she got her start in the printing business. The way in which a whole world of intrigue is created is haunting and spectacular and stuck with us long after we left. Importantly, it is also available afterwards to decompress, enjoy, and hang with the actors fresh off their tortured performance. For times of sensory and psychological overload, there is a hotel bar to visit before delving back into the drama. One can satisfy curiosity by rifling through drawers or coffins, and in doing so, engage with both the story and one's own dread. Instead, audience members are invited to proceed as they wish, following specific actors, wandering in search of “situations,” often sexual or morbid in nature. The roughly three hours of action takes place throughout the hotel, unfolding in many places at once, making the entire story impossible to absorb in one viewing. Guests are given distorted birdlike masks, and while the show is not interactive, the presence of a demonic audience of voyeurs adds to the tension of the setting. "Sleep No More", a wordless retelling of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, invites the viewer to become a part of the nightmarish drama. In the fictional McKittrick Hotel, the air is thick with suspense, and mystery is afoot. ![]()
